Use the right order
Job ad first. Regulator second. Training provider third.
FIFO is a work arrangement, not a licence category. The real threshold comes from the occupation, task, commodity, jurisdiction, employer and client site. A long wallet-card list can still miss the one authority the role actually needs.
Do not ask, “What tickets do I need for FIFO?” Ask, “What evidence does this role require for this work scope and site?”
Four evidence types
The words are not interchangeable.
First identify who issues the evidence and what it legally or operationally allows you to do.
Statement of Attainment
An RTO assesses you against a nationally recognised unit or skill set. The statement records competency; it is not automatically a government licence, site pass or proof of recent machine experience.
VOC and site induction
An employer or mine may verify current practical competency and teach local hazards, systems and rules. A site VOC or induction does not replace the underlying qualification or licence where one is required.
Card, check or clearance
An MSIC, police check, medical or client access card controls a different part of mobilisation. These are not mining qualifications and should only be obtained when the employer confirms the exact requirement.

Fees can change by state, funding eligibility, experience, delivery mode and assessment needs. High-risk work course prices may exclude the regulator licence fee, photos, reassessment, travel or accommodation. “About” and ranges are intentional.

Use a current job advertisement, mobilisation pack or written employer instruction—not a generic “FIFO starter bundle”.

Confirm the current code
Search the unit, skill set or qualification on training.gov.au and check whether it is current or has been replaced.
- 03
Verify the issuing RTO
Check the RTO status, scope and delivery state. If another business delivers the course, identify which RTO will issue the Statement of Attainment.
- 04
Separate course and licence
For high-risk work, ask what is included and what must still be lodged with the state or territory regulator.
- 05
Check prerequisites and evidence
Ask about age, identity, USI, prior units, language and literacy, physical tasks, experience, logbooks and workplace verification.
- 06
Check employer acceptance
Confirm delivery mode, issue date and refresher expectations. An online refresher or old unit may be nationally recognised yet rejected for that mobilisation.
